After Cézanne No. 4
After Cézanne No. 4
The oranges and apples steal the show in this painting as the vibrant, saturated fruits inject lively colour throughout the artwork. The white tablecloth, pitcher and bowl allow the apples and oranges to shine without distraction and act as a break for the eye between the still life elements and the colours in the background. The muted, almost abstract background bring a nice contrast to the painting as its unfocused style gives extra clarity to the foreground fruit.
This oil painting was a study after Cézanne's 'Still Life of Oranges and Apples' that has a well considered arrangement and an aesthetically pleasing colour scheme. Despite feeling a little overwhelmed when I begun this painting, I'm really pleased with how it turned out and think it is such a joy to look at.
